A late-season Sierra Nevada winter storm is taking aim at California, with up to 4 feet of snow possible at the highest peaks and 70 MPH gusts threatening I-80 over Donner Pass, Highway 50 over Echo Summit,
The National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center continues to issue warnings about winter weather, and areas of the country are facing up to three feet of snow this week. So, while May is here and spring has officially sprung, that’s just not the case in a swath of the country dealing with winter weather. (AD shop men's parka now)
Rain in the Denver metro area changed over to heavy snow early in the evening.
FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY UPDATE: A Tornado Watch is in effect for central Alabama until 11 p.m. this evening, though some counties could be removed before then. While an isolated tornado risk remains, the stronger tornado parameters still appear to be farther south and west. We’ve also been tracking a tornado-warned storm near the Montgomery area.
The National Weather Service reports that up to 9 inches of snow blanketed Loveland during a May storm Tuesday and Wednesday. Official reports are that 4 inches fell on the east side of Loveland and 9 inches on the west.
Denver has a snowy start to the Wednesday Pinpoint Weather Alert Day, with the snow ending as skies clear through the afternoon.
